Swedish TLD Regulator Protecting “Bank” From Being Used In Domain Names

Swedish regulator PTS has notified the Swedish .SE ccTLD it will no longer allow the letters “b”, “a”, “n”, and “k” in any sequence in any .SE domain names.

“The term ‘bank’ is protected by law and may only occur in the domain name registered by organizations that may call itself a bank or if it is clear that the domain name can lead to misunderstandings,” said PTS in a translated version of the company’s press release.

According to Patrik Fältström, the regulator has specified that all domain names must be pre-verified prior to domain registration – an issue that would force significant changes to the TLDs current registration process.
